Should I get Pregnant after a Tummy Tuck?

Pregnancy obviously takes a certain toll on the body. This is largely the reason for many women going for plastic surgery treatments after pregnancy, (i.e. our New Jersey Liposuction and Breast Implant treatments). However, what is not talked about as much is what happens if you have a baby after you’ve had a tummy tuck. Is it safe to get pregnant after a tummy tuck? Will the effects of your tummy tuck last after you’ve had a baby? We have your answers here.

IS IT SAFE TO HAVE A BABY AFTER A TUMMY TUCK?

Yes, it is perfectly safe to have a baby after a tummy tuck procedure. There is nothing that could harm the mother or child during the whole 9 month period. There used to be a concern that the tightening of the abdominal wall would prevent the woman’s stomach from stretching properly during pregnancy. However, this has proven to not be the case. The stomach stretches just as safely as it would without a tummy tuck.

IS IT IDEAL TO HAVE A BABY AFTER A TUMMY TUCK?

Here is the tricky part. Generally, for our New Jersey Liposuction and Tummy Tuck procedure, we recommend to get a Tummy tuck once you are finished having children. It is just more practical since you may need to get another surgery after the birth in order to restore your look again. However, life commonly has surprises in store. Not all pregnancies are planned, and couples often change their mind about having babies. Therefore, if you are going to have a baby in the future, we recommend waiting until about a year after the Tummy Tuck. This allows your body more time to recover from the initial surgery.
The amount of fixes needed for restoring your appearance will vary depending on your body’s conditions. This of course depends on how your body reacts to the tummy tuck and the pregnancy.
