Brazilian Butt Lift
Conveniently located to serve the areas of New Jersey
A Brazilian Butt Lift is a surgical procedure that involves transferring fat from other areas of the body to the buttocks to create a fuller, more lifted appearance. The BBL is a popular cosmetic surgery procedure among women who desire a more curvaceous figure or want to improve the appearance of flat or sagging buttocks.
It is important to note that a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon should perform the procedure to ensure optimal results and minimize the risk of complications. Dr. Michael Gartner is not only a board-certified plastic surgeon with extensive experience performing BBL procedures, but he was also the first doctor in New Jersey to perform a BBL.

About the BBL
Unlike traditional implants, the BBL uses the patient’s own fat, which makes it a very appealing option for many seeking body contouring. The technique involves removing fat from other parts of the body with liposuction, like the abdomen, back, thighs, and waist and transfers it to the buttock region. This helps to create more voluptuous and aesthetically pleasing buttocks. It also shapes and defines the donor area to make your BBL results stand out and look even better. Patients emerge from this procedure with attractive, pronounced, and defined buttocks with a beautiful hourglass silhouette.
Dr. Gartner is renowned throughout New York and New Jersey for performing BBLs with great success. Whatever your body goals may be, he can help you achieve them.
Benefits
The benefits of a BBL surgery are numerous, and it is easy to see why the demand for this procedure is growing across the US. Dr. Gartner’s patients typically experience:
- Natural-looking Results: Using your own fat provides results that feel and look natural.
- Body Contouring: The procedure reduces fat in unwanted areas such as the abdomen and love handles while adding volume to the buttocks.
- Minimal Scarring: Small incisions made for liposuction leave inconspicuous scars.
- Customizable Volume: Patients can decide on the amount of augmentation based on their preferences.
- Improved Proportions: Helps to balance body proportions for a more aesthetically pleasing figure.
- No Implants Required: Patients avoid the risks associated with prosthetic implants, such as rupture or shifting.
- Boosted Confidence: Enhanced curves can lead to greater self-esteem and confidence.

Preparation
Dr. Gartner will provide instructions on how to prepare for your Brazilian butt lift. Follow them closely to make your surgery and recovery smoother. Some things that you may need to do include the following:
- Stop taking blood thinners and certain supplements several weeks before surgery as instructed.
- Avoid nicotine use during the weeks leading up to surgery, as it can impede healing.
- Arrange post-operative support by coordinating a ride home and someone to assist you during recovery.
- Plan time off from work to allow for adequate rest and recuperation.
The only limitations placed on the amount of fat you can transfer during your Brazilian butt lift are the amount you have and the amount your butt can accept. You may run out of fat to transfer, so if you are leaner and want a more dramatic result, then Dr. Gartner may advise you to gain some weight before your surgery. The other limitation relies on the amount of fat your buttocks can take.
Our Facility
Your surgery will be performed at our state-of-the-art surgical facility. Our facility is fully accredited by the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAAASF).
AAAASF medicare certification is considered the gold standard in accreditation and one of the highest certifications any ambulatory center can obtain in the country.
Procedure
The BBL procedure involves three main steps: liposuction to remove fat from other body areas, processing the fat to prepare it for transfer, and injecting the fat into the buttocks in multiple layers to create the desired shape and volume.
Fat Removal
General anesthesia is administered. First, incisions are made in the donor site from which fat is harvested using standard lipoplasty techniques. These areas are most often the abdomen, waist, and back. The thighs may also be targeted. We cannot harvest from your breasts, however. A maximum of five liters of aspirate can be removed in one surgery for the average patient. The incisions are sutured.
Fat Processing & Injection
After the harvested fat is purified through gravity separation, Dr. Gartner injects small pearl-sized drops into different layers of tissues in the buttocks near a blood supply. Using gravity to isolate fat ensures that it is left undamaged and will healthily adapt to the surrounding body tissue. (2) Once processed, Dr. Gartner will inject fat into a few sites on your buttocks. After injection, fat may form lumps beneath the skin. Dr. Gartner and his team will carefully smooth these out and sculpt your buttocks to match your ideal image.
Recovery
You can see improvements in your body contour right after your surgery before swelling and bruising set in. Make sure to follow all of Dr. Gartner’s post-surgery instructions to facilitate your recovery. Wait for about three for the optimal results of your surgery to appear.
In the first days following surgery, you will notice swelling become more prominent, along with bruising and discomfort. These will subside. Do not sit for the first week unless you are using the bathroom. From the second week to the fifth, you will be able to sit but without direct pressure on your buttocks. You can use a rectangular pillow (specifically designed for BBL recovery) or bath towel so the majority of the pressure is on your thighs.
If you must drive during this time, you can do so for 30-minute stretches. You will wear a compression garment for at least six weeks after your procedure to maintain constant and consistent pressure on your buttocks. We recommend avoiding the gym and any strenuous activity for at least three months.
Most patients can return to work after one week, but if you work a job where you sit at a desk all day, you may need to wait until you have completely healed. It is also important to note that you should refrain from dancing or performing any other activity that shakes your buttocks for at least six weeks to protect the new vessels forming. This includes going on the elliptical machine or jogging.
Results
After about three or four months, the majority of the swelling will have disappeared, revealing your results. You will be leaner in the areas from which the fat was removed and have fuller, perkier buttocks. If your midsection was a donor site, you will probably have more of an hourglass figure. Because this procedure removes fat cells from the donor sites, you will notice that these areas do not experience as much expansion with future weight gain. Your buttocks will, however, get larger because of the additional fat cells.
Though outcomes are revealed closer to three months post-procedure, Brazilian Butt Lifts are highly satisfying because of the near-immediate changes patients enjoy. You can see dramatic changes to your shape right after surgery. Plastic surgeons will sometimes inject more fat than ultimately desired because a percentage of it is expected to disappear while healing.
Patients receive a snug, shaping garment and will notice a more hourglass-like shape to their figure following surgery. With care to follow instructions and heal optimally, they can expect to maintain an hourglass shape and curvy bottom, permanently. Patients should maintain their results with a healthy diet and lifestyle.
