ARE YOU A CANDIDATE?
Common worries about laser hair removal include concern that your hair may be too light. In the past, limited laser technology meant that light or blonde hair typically didn’t respond well to a laser at all. We now have a multitude of specialized wavelengths and energy customization at our disposal. We’re able to bypass the surface layers of skin and pigment, making laser hair removal safe and effective for a wider variety of hair types. Laser hair removal is suitable for men and women with any skin type who are unhappy with the excessive hair growth they have on their face and body. All hair colors can be treated, from blonde to black.
Consult Dr. GartnerThis is why your laser hair removal treatment at Gartner Plastic Surgery is unique
- The technology we offer can treat sun-tanned skin. This is superior to other, older technologies which are unable to effectively perform treatments on tanned skin due to a higher risk of burns and other complications. We customize and tailor your treatment to you and your skin. Our innovative approach carefully adjusts your treatment regimen to better accommodate your situation, so that you won’t have to postpone your sessions unnecessarily and delay your results.
- Ingrown hairs (pseudofolliculitis barbae) are an incredibly inconvenient, embarrassing, and bothersome problem for people who frequently use hair removal products. This unsightly issue can be eliminated with our laser hair removal technology, as it is powerful enough to penetrate down to the follicle despite, surface inflammation and skin coverage. As a result, you’ll be able to enjoy a smoother complexion that isn’t marred by irritating bumps. Along with the hair that you don’t want, ingrown hairs can be a thing of the past for you.
- Our state-of-the-art laser hair removal devices can treat larger areas at one time, than the previous generation of treatments with computer-guided software which meticulously ensures an even diffusion of laser energy to the desired areas. Also, because our technology is faster than other outdated machines, we’ve shortened the length of time each session takes so that you can quickly get back to enjoying your life. Gone are the days when laser hair removal has to take up endless hours of your time.
Contact
Before your treatment, you’ll have the opportunity to discuss your goals with Dr. Gartner. He’ll examine the area you’d like to treat and briefly discuss your medical condition and history to ensure laser hair removal is suitable for you. It is important to note that while laser hair removal is effective, sometimes underlying medical conditions may cause excessive hair growth and those should be treated first. At your first appointment, you’ll find out approximately how many sessions you may need to achieve the results you want.
As part of your consultation, you’ll have a small patch test done in the area you’d like to treat. This is done to determine how your skin and hair will respond to the treatment.
HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR TREATMENT
It is important that you not wax, sugar, or pluck your hair before a laser hair removal session, as the technology is effective only when the hair follicle is still intact. Please make sure that your skin in the target area is not irritated, inflamed, or infected, as this may increase the risk of developing a complication. For your safety, your session may be postponed if the health of your skin is compromised.
While suntanned skin can be treated, you should let us know if you’ve tanned recently as we’ll need to adjust your treatment regimen accordingly for your safety.
YOUR TREATMENT
Once all of the target areas have been treated, your skin will be cleansed. We may apply sunscreen and moisturizer to protect the integrity of your skin.
- The skin in the target area will be cleaned.
- A numbing cream may be applied beforehand to increase your comfort. This is not necessary, but we are happy to provide it if you prefer.
- A cooling gel is applied to the target area(s)and this helps to cool the skin surface during your treatment.
- The target area is exposed to brief, pulses of laser energy emitted by a handheld device.
YOUR RECOVERY
You’ll be able to get right back to work after your session. Redness, sensitivity, and slight swelling may occur, but these typically resolve within in a day or two. Your skin will be hypersensitive to sun exposure, therefore it’s important to keep the area(s) covered up and well protected.
Throughout the first few weeks after your session, you’ll notice that the hair in the target area will gradually shed.
Because laser hair removal can only target hair follicles that are in an active growth phase, you may find that some hairs begin to regrow in an area that you treated. In each area of your skin, hair will grow and rest at different rates in their follicles. This new growth can be removed at your next session until eventually all follicles are no longer producing hair.
Considerations and risks associated with laser hair removal
Laser hair removal is a laser-based technology. For this reason, the most notable risks associated with the treatment include burns, undesirable pigmentation changes, and scarring. Your aesthetician will discuss what you need to know to be safe and prepare for your treatment.
