What mini facelift can do for you
Facelift, also known as rhytidectomy in the cosmetic medical community, is a cosmetic or, plastic surgery procedure that is commonly performed to improve the tone of facial muscles, correct sagging of the jaw line or the cheeks and reduce facial creases for an overall youthful appearance of the face. In fact, the procedure can turn the clock back on the perceived age of an individual by as much as ten years. Who wouldn’t want to maintain the facial vitality of their younger self?
The procedure helps reverse facial changes such as wrinkles and sagging tissues which are caused by advancing age, a breakdown of collagen and elastin, significant weight loss, gravity and other environmental factors like exposure to ultraviolet radiation, (i.e. sunlight). One of the first signs of aging that we commonly notice is loose skin along the jawline, and around the cheeks and the neck. For individuals who wish to avoid a major surgery, while rejuvenating the facial features in this area, we have the option of a Mini Facelift.
Benefits of the procedure compared to the traditional approach
- Affordability and low cost to the client
- Shorter duration of the procedure
- Fewer complications from the surgery (traditional facelifts may have risks of facial nerve injury, swelling, and bruising) but it is advised to have your head elevated during sleep to avoid swelling of the face.
- Less invasive procedure so it is possible to get back to work faster (shorter healing period)
- The requirement for corrective surgeries will be less
- Scars are less prominent and will be hidden in the natural curves of the face
- It is an outpatient procedure so hospitalization is not routinely required
Mini Facelift is less invasive procedure so it is possible to get back to work faster (shorter healing period)
What makes your body lift at Gartner Plastic Surgery unique
- Dr. Gartner has perfected leading edge, modern surgical techniques which enable him to offer you the Mini Facelift without general anaesthetic and the associated concerns. Patients are kept completely comfortable and awake for the procedure while experiencing no pain at all, due to meticulous local and oral anesthetic or local in combination with IV sedation. This means that you can experience the long-term benefits of preemptive and local anesthesia but will feel alert and well when going home.
- General anesthetic can sometimes cause severe nausea, headache or prolonged dizziness in post-surgical patients.
This procedure is excellent for tightening lax tissue at or above the jaw line, while causing the least amount of scarring and bruising among any of the facelift surgeries. It can also improve your facial proportions and can be followed by other facial surgeries such as Rhinoplasty for a more balanced look.
Are You A Candidate For Mini Facelift?
Procedure offers the ability to get back to work in about a week as well as the ability to see the results of your procedure as fast as a few days to weeks.
Are you a candidate?
Mini Facelift is the preferred procedure for younger patients, (less than 50 years old) as the procedure is less extensive than a full, facelift and has fewer associated complications compared with the traditional facelift. Dr. Gartner specializes in the advanced, SMAS plication and SMASectomy techniques. They are less invasive than other facelift methods and have a lower risk of complications, (such as nerve injury) which means that your surgery is less traumatic than other kinds of facelifts, so your recovery period is shorter.
The Mini Face Lift offers the ability to get back to work in about a week as well as the ability to see the results of your procedure as fast as a few days to weeks. A natural result which can be maintained with non-surgical treatments will never have you appearing pulled or, “done”. The Mini option may not be as effective for elderly patients.
Another benefit of the procedure is that it can be repeated in a few years down the line if a revision is required, with minimal impact on the health and physical appearance. Surgeons make their incisions at sites where the natural curves and creases of the face will able to hide them and reduce their visibility. There is no single best option for every individual as the best procedures changes with the individual circumstances of the client.
The ideal candidate for the Mini Facelift is a young patient with minimal sagging of the neck who has concerns with facial changes that warrant a facial rejuvenation procedure. Prior to accepting candidates for the procedure, we perform a thorough check for health problems to ensure they are physically and mentally prepared for the surgery. It is also important for our clients to have realistic expectations from the surgery because severe facial modifications beyond what is suggested by the surgeon can have negative long-term effects on the appearance rather than improving it.
The benefits of a facelift procedure can last a lifetime so discussion about maintaining the results of the surgery is an important part of the planning process. After initial swelling has resolved within the first few weeks post operatively, residual, minor swelling may last for many months and patients can appreciate final, settled results at around 6 months after their procedure and the improved, tighter and younger appearance will last for many years.
Your Surgery Explained
Your surgery will be performed at our state-of-the-art surgical facility. Our facility is fully accredited by the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAAASF). AAAASF medicare certification is considered the gold standard in accreditation and one of the highest certifications any ambulatory center can obtain in the country.
Dr. Gartner utilizes local anesthesia for many of his procedures, including the Mini Facelift. Oral and local analgesic is often sufficient to keep patients comfortable and reduce risk of complication. This can be combined with safe, IV sedation or, “twilight sleep” if preferred. Unlike general anesthesia which keeps a patient unconscious during surgery, people remain awake following the administration of local anesthesia and the anesthetic medication will ensure that they do not feel any discomfort. The surgeon will cover your eyes with a cloth so that you will not be able to visualize the surgery but you are able to hear and speak. Many people sleep peacefully under IV sedation.
As the Mini Facelift is an outpatient procedure, you will be allowed to go home shortly after the procedure is completed. You will be required to have a friend or family member present to accompany you home which ensures your safety and transportation. You will be scheduled for a regular follow up and will have your sutures removed at around two weeks. It will take a few weeks for the incisions to heal so it is recommended that you limit movements of the face and neck until advised by the surgeon.
