What facial peels can do for you

It is no secret that a good skin care regimen involving cleansing, exfoliation, toning and moisturizing the skin will go a long way toward keeping a healthy, clear complexion. However, there is a limit to what our daily at home skin care regimen can do for us. Have you noticed that your skin becomes dull-looking at times or that you have a mix of textures present- making application of makeup-less smooth than it should be? Enlarged pores, clogged pores, and breakouts are all commonplace but they do not have to be.

A revitalizing facial peel every few weeks at Gartner Plastic Surgery and Laser Clinic, New York, can refresh your complexion, allowing your skin to glow after just one 30 minute session. Peels are available in varying strengths- from gentle and mild to deep, powerful intensity and effect. Our skin’s natural exfoliation process slows down as we age and facial peels can be a gentle but effective way to facilitate healthy skin renewal. Facial peels stimulate the production of healthier skin so that you’ll notice a gradual improvement of your complexion in the days, weeks and months after your treatment.

You Can Expect

  • Minimize and eliminate discoloration.
  • Smooth rough textures.
  • Tighten enlarged pores.
  • Address fine lines.
  • Control acne.
  • Reduce the appearance of superficial scarring.

The revitalizing facial peel experience involves

  • The ability to return to work right after a nonsurgical treatment.
  • You will see the glowing results of your treatment the very next day if you have a light peel.
  • Enjoy a smoother, more even-toned complexion.
  • Your skin will glow with a more youthful, dewy appearance.
  • Your makeup will glide on and blend in evenly, flawlessly.

Facial Peels

At our New York locations, Gartner Plastic Surgery and Laser Center offers four, specialized facial peels to choose from. They vary in intensity, ranging from mild and superficial to deep and intense – for dramatic results.

Glycolic Glow Peels

For the ultimate glow

Glycolic Glow Peels gently remove the uppermost layers of the epidermis to reveal the healthier layers underneath. Not only will your skin glow right after your treatment, but the underlying epidermis also benefits greatly from this treatment:

  • The Glycolic Glow peel stimulates the production of collagen, firming and plumping up the skin.
  • It stimulates the production of elastin which makes the skin more supple.
  • It accelerates the production of new skin cells, which will restructure the skin to prevent the regeneration of the previous skin issues and allow ongoing beautiful results.
  • Glycolic acid has the skin’s same, natural ability to bond with water, dramatically boosting moisture levels, according to a study found in the journal, Dermatologic Surgery[1].

After your Glycolic Glow peel, your skin may feel like it has a mild sunburn which is soothed with gentle, hydrating skin care products, but you may return to daily activities right away. For this reason, the Glycolic Glow peel is ideal as an instant refresher for your skin. This treatment is a great option to have you looking your best at your important social event in the near future. It can also be used to address minor complexion concerns on your face or body.

Light Peels

For gentle complexion renewal

Light peels gently dissolve away the uppermost layers of the epidermis which are composed essentially of dead skin cells and debris that clog your pores and hide the fresher skin underneath. A light peel can resolve many complexion irregularities:

  • Smooth away fine wrinkles by stimulating collagen and elastin production.
  • Control acne and minimize future breakouts by destroying harmful bacteria and moderating excess oil production.
  • Even out skin pigments to even out tone.

At most, a mild stinging may be felt during your treatment but the majority of patients don’t even feel that. You’ll experience some redness and tenderness afterward, but it will dissipate quickly. With no downtime and instant results, this is a safe, effective option for any skin type or age and fits right into your busy schedule.

Medium Peels

For smoother skin and elimination of unsightly blemishes

The medium peel targets the entire epidermis, stripping it away entirely to reveal the deeper skin layer underneath, known as the dermis. Because it affects more layers of your skin, you can eradicate deeper wrinkles and blemishes:

  • Unclog pores and eliminate excess oils.
  • Smooth away vertical lip lines.
  • Diminish wrinkles around your eyes.
  • Firm up mild skin laxity.
  • Erase irregular pigmentation caused by sun damage.

During your treatment, you’ll experience a sensation similar to sunburn. The treated area may swell slightly and can turn grey in the short term and red/brown for a few weeks after. This is a regular part of the natural healing process of your skin. Once these damaged layers flake off, the epidermis refreshes itself with healthier cells, becoming smoother and more youthful-looking. This can be mildly uncomfortable, but you’ll be able to tolerate it. This slightly more aggressive peel type requires a little more of your time and convenience but the results are well worth it.

Deep Peels

For our most dramatic rejuvenation

The deep peel targets not just the epidermis, but the upper portion of the dermis as well. This is the deepest level of damaged skin which can be safely treated during a non surgical procedure without profoundly increasing the risk of infections and other complications. This means deep peels are ideal for the following:

  • Severe wrinkles, including crow’s feet.
  • Deep wrinkles and creases that have a yellow hue (signs of damage caused by long-term sun exposure).
  • Deep blotches such as birthmarks, and even precancerous lesions.

Because this level of peel is much more dramatic, it requires topical anesthesia to make your treatment more comfortable. Afterwards, Dr. Gartner will coat the affected area in petroleum jelly, which you must keep on for a minimum of two days while your dermis recovers. Swelling may last up to two weeks, and redness may last for up to three months. However, as your skin restores itself, you’ll notice it to be dramatically smoother, younger, more evenly toned and healthier. A whole new complexion is revealed after the intense work is done. Your results from a deep peel can last for up to ten years!
