Recovery Stages After a Breast Augmentation in NJ

Breast Augmentation With Implants

As a NJ breast augmentation patient, you’ve gone through each phase of the decision-making process step by step. You’ve determined the size, shape and style that best suits your individual needs. Now you find yourself mulling over the post-surgical realities. Once I have my beautiful new breasts, how will my recovery take shape? We’re so glad you asked.

Breast augmentation clients often have the option of general anesthetic or IV sedation for their procedure. Naturally, this will impact recovery. Many of Dr. Gartner’s happy patients credit their faster recovery to having a BA without general anesthetic.

Dr. Gartner is a proponent of what’s known as pre-emptive anesthesia. As the name suggests, this strategic use of medication blocks pain before the surgery even begins. Patients typically find this intervention minimizes postoperative discomfort and can take days off their recovery time.

What will my breasts look like immediately following surgery?

After breast augmentation in Nj, it isn’t uncommon for breasts to appear larger and perhaps misshapen. Swelling, coupled with the fact that your implants have yet to settle is responsible for a compressed appearance. The implant volume may sit high on the chest with nipples comparatively low. Luckily, this is quite normal and expected, especially if you have small breasts and tight skin to begin with.

As with any surgical procedure, the tissue and muscles surrounding the operative site hold inflammation for a time. After the first two weeks, the majority of swelling or bruising will be resolved, and residual inflammation continues to decrease throughout the first few months. As implants gradually fall into their intended position, their soft, natural result is slowly revealed.

Comfort is Key

You’ll be happy to know that you can enjoy a shower the day after your breast augmentation in NJ. We recommend you remove the wrap and use a gentle soap on the incision site. Avoid vigorous rubbing and carefully pat yourself dry. Baths, as well as hot tubs and swimming, will need to wait until incisions are completely healed. Breast enhancement patients will either have a specific surgical bra assigned to them, or may be permitted to purchase any soft, wire-free support bra.

When can I return to work? And the Gym?

This is a common question as many people love to stay fit and they dislike pausing their gym membership. We recommend that you start slowly after 3 weeks to work on the lower body and light cardio. Your surgeon will clear you at roughly 6 weeks to begin more strenuous, upper body exercise.

Some patients whose work is sedentary, have found that they can get back to their desks within 5 days. If your job is physically taxing and requires much lifting, you’ll need to adapt your time off to avoid strenuous use of arms or chest. Your plastic surgeon will be happy to discuss your situation with you and advise a plan to keep you safe and comfortable.

With adherence to these post-surgical recommendations, we’re confident that you’ll have an optimal recovery. Don’t hesitate to contact Dr. Gartner with your questions or concerns; we look forward to hearing from you!
