Breast Augmentation With Implants

Breasts are often an important part of a woman’s physique and as a result, a breast augmentation can have a significant impact on an individual’s appearance and self-esteem. When considering breast augmentation, choosing the most suitable implant type and size is one of the most important factors. Breast implants are available in a variety of shapes, sizes, materials, and profiles. In order to ensure that you achieve your desired results, it is crucial to consider the implant type, profile, and size carefully in consultation with your surgeon

Implant Type

While silicone implants were once viewed as controversial, they are now the most popular option for breast augmentation because new generation implants carry many benefits. Although saline implants require a smaller incision and they can be filled after being placed by the surgeon, silicone gel implants result in a more natural look and feel, mimicking natural breast tissue. As a result, the vast majority of patients now opt for silicone gel implants.

Implant Profile

Another important factor to consider is the desired profile, which refers to the extent to which an implant projects forward when standing. The same volume will appear differently shaped depending on the selected profile.

Low profile implants have minimal projection from the chest and are comparatively flat. This profile is best suited for women with wider chests and those who already have significant breast tissue which just requires a little added fullness.

Moderate profile implants are often the most natural-looking as they provide more projection than low profile implants but are not as round or full in the upper pole as high profile implants. They are most suitable for women who want very proportionate results and a smooth upper breast slope.

High profile implants, result in more projection and fuller, round-looking results, which may not appear as natural as the alternatives. Often, women who desire a significant size increase and a curvy look will select these implants.

Although the choice of profile depends on the patient’s desired results, moderate and high profile implants are the most popular.

Implant Size

The final consideration in breast implant selection is size. Implants, which are measured in cubic centiliters (CCs), range in size from 200cc to 800cc, with 1cc being equivalent to 1ml.
It is important to be aware that CCs do not correlate to cup sizes as the number of CCs required to achieve your desired size will depend on a number of factors, including existing breast tissue and chest wall diameter. During your consultation, your surgeon will provide you with implant sizers to try on various sizes and determine the best size for you. While each patient should select the volume that best suits their body and goals, most common breast implant sizes range from 300-500cc.

It is important to ensure that you select the most suitable type, profile, and size for your individual needs. During your initial consultation, Dr. Michael Gartner will walk you through the various options and work closely with you to develop a personalized treatment plan.
