How To Reduce Swelling After A Breast Augmentation Surgery

Breast Augmentation With Implants

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, breast augmentation surgery has consistently been one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures since 2006. The trans-axillary technique, also referred to as armpit augmentation mammoplasty, has recently become one of the most popular breast augmentation options as a result of its virtually scarless nature.

Unlike the inframammary and peri-areolar methods, which require making an incision on the breast, the trans-axillary technique inserts the implant through a small incision in the armpit crease, leaving a tiny, well-hidden scar, which typically heals very well. Before undergoing this innovative and transformative surgery, it is important to be aware of what to expect after your scarless breast augmentation procedure in New York.

You Should Allow Yourself At Least One Week Of Downtime

While each patient is unique, in most cases, patients require one to two weeks to recover. It is recommended that you schedule at least one week off from work and other commitments and allow yourself to rest for at least the first two to three days, at which point some activities can be resumed.

You May Experience Some Pain

Although each patient is unique and has their own tolerance for pain, in most cases, you will experience some discomfort within the first week. Dr. Gartner uses both preemptive and long-acting anesthetic to help minimize the amount of discomfort his patients experience. They will typically feel relatively comfortable with minimal pain medications. Few patients report experiencing severe pain after six days, however, you will be prescribed medication to ensure that you are kept comfortable throughout your recovery.

Some Movements Will Be Limited

While you are recovering, from your New York breast augmentation, it is imperative to restrict certain movements in order to allow your body time to heal. Light exercise can be gradually resumed one to two weeks after your surgery, but you should avoid heavy lifting for at least 4-6 weeks, or raising your arms over the head for the first week following the procedure. Avoid putting pressure on the breasts or sleeping on your stomach for at least one month post-operatively.

You Will Need To Attend Post-Operative Appointments

Following your surgery, it is necessary to attend all scheduled post-operative appointments, as your surgeon will want to examine your progress. These checkups also provide you with an opportunity to discuss any questions or concerns you may have.

You Should Live A Healthy Lifestyle

For optimal results and a speedy recovery, it is necessary to live a healthy lifestyle both before and after your surgery. This means eating a healthy, balanced diet and avoiding smoking and alcohol consumption.

You Should Follow All Aftercare Instructions Provided

Prior to your breast implant surgery, you will be provided with a detailed list of aftercare instructions. These may include the use of a compression band or garment or postoperative massages to accelerate recovery and minimize bruising. It is important to follow all instructions carefully and ask for clarification as needed. Although rare, the risk of infection post-operatively is higher when patients do not follow the directions provided.
