Why Is the Armpit Incision A Popular Choice For Women Getting Breast Implant Surgery?

Breast Augmentation With Implants

Breast augmentation surgery is one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures in New York, due to its ability to dramatically transform a woman’s physique, boosting self-esteem as it improves one’s body image. Although there are several different techniques used for breast augmentation, more and more New York breast augmentation patients are requesting armpit incisions, known as the trans-axillary method, because of the associated safety, reduced recovery time, and virtually scarless results.

Safety

The trans-axillary method is an extremely safe option, as it requires making a small incision in the armpit, which doesn’t negatively impact nerves, lymphatics or blood vessels. This makes it a much less invasive option than each of the alternatives. The peri-areolar technique necessitates making an incision in the outer edge of the areola, the inframammary method creates an incision in the inframammary fold, or breast crease, and the trans umbilical technique, creates an incision through the navel.

In addition, unlike the peri-areolar method, which can impact a woman’s ability to breastfeed in the future, the trans-axillary technique poses no such threat. The risk of complications is further reduced by selecting a highly qualified, board certified New York or New Jersey plastic surgeon with extensive experience performing trans-axillary breast augmentations.

Reduced Recovery Time

While each patient is unique, in most instances, individuals experience a speedier recovery following this procedure due to its less invasive nature. The natural tissue planes are opened up to place the implant below the muscles, so this procedure does not require the muscles to be cut and does not injure the breast tissue. As a result, you can return home shortly after the surgery and resume work within one week. During the first one to three days, you may experience some pain, however, this can be managed with the pain medication prescribed. Strenuous exercise and heavy lifting should be avoided for two weeks at which point light exercise can gradually be reintroduced. However, upper body exercises should be avoided for 3-4 weeks and chest exercises cannot be resumed until at least 6 weeks post-op.

Virtually Scarless

One of the greatest advantages of the trans-axillary or armpit breast augmentation method, is the fact that it leaves no scars on the breasts. Unlike the alternatives, which result in scarring around the nipple or under the breasts, the armpit incision guarantees that there will be no signs of scarring on your newly enhanced chest. Since scarring can be a dead giveaway of a breast augmentation, more and more women are opting for the trans-axillary technique in order to ensure that their augmentation is undetected. Following this procedure, the scarring left at the incision site will be easily concealed within a natural armpit fold. In addition, armpit scars typically heal very well and are often virtually invisible soon after surgery.
