Getting Back Into Regular Routine After Brazilian Butt Lift

Brazilian Butt Lift

The Brazilian Butt Lift has become one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures in the world. Its popularity is more concentrated towards the younger generation who are currently in their late teens to mid-thirties.

Because we all lead busy lives, one of the most common questions that our clients have about the surgery is when they will be able to get back to their daily routines. This is a great question and it is absolutely necessary for potential patients to understand how a well-planned recovery will temporarily affect their schedule.

Each individual’s return to a regular, daily routine depends on their specific situation and the activities that they wish to perform. Even though the Brazilian Butt Lift is an invasive, surgical procedure, the related incisions are very small and typically close and heal within 1-2 weeks. What makes this surgery so different from many others is that the surgical site, the buttocks, serves the important function of seating on a daily basis.

As a result, the need to avoid sitting directly on the buttocks for a time after surgery typically causes the most inconvenience and requires modifications to daily work and home life. Dr. Michael Gartner recommends his clients use the Brazilian Butt Lift pillow to sit on for comfort from the second week onwards.

If your occupation requires sitting and you are comfortable with such arrangements in a social setting, it would be possible to return to work life at 2 weeks, however many people choose to work from home or take extended time away from their jobs if sitting is required. In total, patients will be asked to avoid direct, prolonged sitting for 6 weeks.

This is because direct pressure on the area of fat grafting can cause tissue death, displacement and reabsorption. The transfer site will be actively reestablishing vascular connections and viability of grafted fat cells during this important time. The carefully sculpted shape of the buttocks may be negatively affected if fat tissue is compressed and displaced before it becomes established in the area.

For highly active patients who are interested in continuing daily, rigorous exercises, it is recommended that they wait for at least six weeks following the surgery to continue their workouts.

Exercises that require the pushing of heavy weights with the legs or movement of the buttocks muscles such as squats, will require them to wait for at least eight weeks before it is safe for them to pursue. Cardiovascular exercises may also increase the amount of tissue swelling that you experience immediately post op, so your surgeon will ask you to avoid such activity for the first 2-3 weeks.
