Brazilian Butt Lift vs. Buttocks Implants: What’s The Difference?

Brazilian Butt Lift

If you have already read our previous post on Brazilian Butt Lift vs fat transfer then you might already be familiar with the various types of butt augmentation surgeries available.

The terminology used to describe the procedures can be somewhat confusing as some of the surgeries have characteristics which overlap one another. The Brazilian Butt Lift is a type of fat transfer surgery where an autograft of the client’s own fat tissue is taken from another area of the body and is transplanted into specific sites of the buttocks to improve its contour and size.

A transfer procedure in general can be performed in other areas of the body such as the breasts, or in combination with inserting surgical butt implants for patients who have little to no excess body fat. In patients who have inadequate fat deposits, it would be difficult to achieve the appearance and shape that they desire using only a Brazilian Butt Lift.

The combination of fat transfer with buttocks implants will produce a better cosmetic result in such individuals. Implants that are used for buttocks augmentation are typically a cohesive gel silicone which feels slightly former than those used for breast augmentation.

Natural Feel & Appearance

The results of the Brazilian Butt Lift often have the reputation of looking and feeling more natural because transplanted fat looks, moves and feels naturally. Often, people have excess fat on the body but do not have it where they want it. Their own natural fat will continue to appear natural when it is relocated. Fat creates a soft camouflage for implant coverage as well if one is required. When placed in a very thin person, buttocks implants alone may not give the impression of natural, proportionate contours such as fat will.

Associated Complications

In comparison to the Brazilian Butt Lift, butt implants carry a higher risk of being displaced over time and may cause significant discomfort or require a secondary surgery for correction of malposition. Because the buttocks typically take a significant amount of impact and movement on a daily basis, the implants placed in this location face significant strain. Another possible problem associated with any implant in the body is the risk of capsular contracture.

This involves the scar tissue which normally forms after surgery becoming thicker and constricting the implant. Mild capsular contracture may respond to medications but often a secondary surgery will be required to correct severe capsular contracture. Implant infection is possible and this can be a concern due to the location of surgical incisions for this procedure and difficulty people may have with self-care.

Indications For A Brazilian Butt Lift

It is commonly thought that thin, slender women are suitable candidates for butt implants but not for a Brazilian butt lift, however, experienced plastic surgeons are often adept in gathering suitable fat to use from various locations such as the sides, back area, thighs and back of arms. The best way to find out what options will best suit you is to meet your plastic surgeon in person for a personal consultation.
