Brow Lift
Frown lines above the nose and in the middle of the forehead can produce an unwanted, older looking appearance. As a result of stress and age, we tend to make facial expressions that promote creases, resulting in a serious, unhappy or aged appearance.
A Browlift is a procedure that restores a more youthful, refreshed look to the area above the eyes. The Browlift procedure corrects drooping brows and improves the horizontal lines and furrows that can make a person appear angry, sad or tired. It is one of the only procedures that allows Dr. Gartner to access the hard to reach muscles that cause forehead furrows.
A Browlift combats the signs of aging by diminishing frown lines and raising naturally low or “heavy” brows. Browlift surgery works by elevating muscles and tissues that cause the brow to droop, creating a smoother looking forehead. It may be done in conjunction with other rejuvenative surgery to achieve a more harmonious facial appearance. A Browlift is also appropriate for treatment of certain inherited traits. Younger adults who have a low brow or who already have deep frown lines due to stress or overactivity of muscles, may benefit from the procedure.
Ideal Candidates for a Browlift
- Sagging or low position of the eyebrows, creating a tired or sad appearance
- Deep horizontal creases across the forehead
- Frown lines, or furrows, between the eyebrows and sometimes across the top of the nose
Browlift Surgery
An incision behind the hairline allows the surgeon to minimize visible scarring. The surgeon then elevates the skin and muscles of the forehead, using an endoscope (small camera) to visualize important structures. The eyebrows may also be lifted and secured to a higher position by sutures beneath the skin’s surface. When the lift is complete, the scalp incisions will be closed with stitches or clips and the area will be washed. Gauze and an elastic bandage may also be applied, depending on your surgeon’s preference.
Browlift Recovery
Most patients are back to work or school in less than a week. Vigorous physical activity or any activity that increases your blood pressure, including jogging, bending, heavy housework or sex, should be limited for several weeks.. Prolonged exposure to heat or sun should also be limited for several months. Most of the visible signs of surgery should fade completely within about three weeks.
